Why I’ll Never Get Tired of Makeup Applications

After 15 years as a professional makeup artist, you might think I would eventually feel like I’ve seen it all.

But the truth is… I haven’t. And that is exactly why I love what I do.

Every face is different. Every person brings a new combination of skin texture, facial features, coloring, undertones, eye shapes, dimples, freckles, fine lines, bone structure, and personal style. No two makeup applications are ever exactly the same—and that is what keeps me learning, growing, and genuinely excited about my work every single day.

I love makeup because it is so much more than simply applying products to a face. Professional makeup artistry is about understanding the person sitting in front of me and creating a look that works specifically for them.

Makeup Is Never One-Size-Fits-All

One of the things I have learned throughout my career as a makeup artist is that makeup is never one-size-fits-all.

A foundation shade that looks beautiful on one person may not be the right match for someone else. The same eyeshadow technique can look completely different depending on the shape and placement of someone’s eyes. Blush placement changes with bone structure. Contouring changes with facial structure. Concealer placement changes depending on texture, lines, and the natural shape of the face.

That is why I love the challenge of a makeup application.

I am constantly looking at the details.

Where does the light naturally hit the face? Where do I want to add dimension? What colors will complement the skin’s undertone? How can I enhance someone’s features while still allowing them to look and feel like themselves?

These are the things that make makeup artistry so fascinating to me.

I’m Still Learning Every Day

After 15 years in the beauty industry, I still learn something new during almost every makeup application.

I learn from different skin types and skin textures. I learn how products behave differently on dry skin, oily skin, mature skin, textured skin, and everything in between. I learn how different facial features change the way makeup should be applied.

I continue to study color theory, shade matching, undertones, color correction, blending techniques, and how different colors interact with the skin.

And honestly? I love that I will never know absolutely everything.

The beauty industry is constantly evolving. New products, new techniques, new trends, and new approaches to makeup are always emerging. But the foundation of good makeup artistry remains the same: understanding color, understanding the face, and understanding the person.

Color Theory Is One of My Favorite Parts of Makeup

My love of color theory is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy both applying makeup and creating cosmetics.

Color theory plays such an important role in makeup artistry. It helps us understand undertones, complementary colors, color correction, shade selection, and how colors can enhance one another.

Whether I am choosing a foundation shade, finding the perfect blush, creating an eyeshadow look, correcting discoloration, or developing a new cosmetic shade, I am always thinking about how color works.

This is also one of the reasons I love hand-mixing and formulating makeup.

There is something so exciting about starting with color and watching it transform. A little more warmth. A touch more coolness. A hint of pink. A little less yellow. The smallest adjustments can completely change the final result.

That same curiosity follows me into every makeup application.

Every Face Gives Me a New Challenge

I love a challenge.

I love when someone sits in my chair and says, “I have no idea what will look good on me.”

I love working with different eye shapes, facial structures, skin tones, undertones, textures, dimples, freckles, and features. I love figuring out how to enhance what makes each person unique.

Makeup artistry is not about making every face look the same.

It is about understanding what makes each face beautiful and using makeup to enhance it.

Sometimes that means creating a soft, natural makeup look. Sometimes it means a full glam makeup application. Sometimes it means finding the perfect foundation match or learning how to work with a specific skin texture. Sometimes it means creating a look for a special event, wedding, photoshoot, or simply helping someone feel more confident in their everyday makeup routine.

Every face teaches me something.

And every application gives me another opportunity to grow as a makeup artist.

The Final Result Never Gets Old

No matter how many makeup applications I do, I never get tired of the final result.

There is something so special about seeing someone look in the mirror after their makeup application and watching their confidence change.

Sometimes it is the smile.

Sometimes it is the way they sit a little taller.

Sometimes it is the moment they say, “I love it.”

That moment reminds me exactly why I do what I do.

Makeup is not about changing who someone is. For me, it is about helping someone see themselves in a new way. It is about enhancing their natural features, creating confidence, and giving them a moment to feel truly beautiful.

And after 15 years, that feeling still means everything to me.

Why I Love Being a Makeup Artist

I love that makeup combines creativity, science, color theory, artistry, problem-solving, and connection.

I love that I can spend one day creating a soft, natural makeup look and the next day working on a completely different face, different skin tone, different features, and a completely different vision.

I love that I am constantly learning.

I love that I am constantly challenged.

I love that makeup allows me to work with color, texture, shape, and dimension.

And I love that every application reminds me that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
